How to Exist
"Wherever we go, we are friends" -Sloth and Manatee
Sloth and Manatee

OK this one might be a little peculiar, so let me explain. You see, there’s a certain type of suffering brought about by losing the ability to be truly present, truly there. This is a type of suffering that to me feels very widespread - I see it when there’s a whole train of people endless-scrolling. Something I’ve struggled and struggled with, this sense of being kind of locked out of what’s happening.
Today’s world seems like it’s made to keep us perpetually in this un-present non-existing state. Always pulled just one layer away from what’s there, like there’s a piece of wax paper between us and ourselves. It’s very dis-empowering.
I think a lot about my own experience of being not-there and what it feels like when you are-there. And so Sloth here is a representation of that process. By bringing attention fully to the flower, Sloth begins to really exist. So this comic is an attempt using the pencil-y scribble-y line work to show what it feels like to “fall together.”
Maybe this makes a little sense to you?

Okay! That's enough nonsense for now.
May you be fully there, may you get lost but with friends, won't you be my neighbor? - Betsy
