This is Lucy Bellwood bringing you a new prompt for The Right Number, a tender voicemail confessional that’s been humming along in the background of my life for the last three years.
This week’s prompt is about grief.
Caring for a parent with dementia conjures grief in many guises. There’s the “it’s not fair” grief, the “I miss him” grief, the “someday he will be gone” grief. Whether ambiguous, anticipatory, or acute, it’s a constant companion to me throughout this season.
Any yet…I ignore it! I squash it and brush past it and assume that I should just be getting on with things. It can be hard to make space to let grief just be.
So this week there’s a new prompt that will, I hope, give us all an opportunity to name our griefs without wanting to fix or change them. You can dial 1-503-673-6267 to hear the prompt and (if you’d like) record a response.
Breathe out,
Lucy
