Why not wash your hands to some of the best songs of the twentieth century?
Salutations! I’m Adam Keys and you’re here because, at some point in your past, you subscribed to my newsletter on interesting things you can enjoy and/or read. If that seems unlikely and unfamiliar, well that’s our sick sad world, but you can unsubscribe (link in the footer) if you want to. But since you’re still reading, thanks!, and let’s get on to the things of interest.
Currently washing my hands to: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”. If “Good Vibrations” was on Pet Sounds, would it be the best album, if not piece of music, of the twentieth century? Possibly! Lots of musical forms represented. Some serious music happening here. And yet, under the guise of a surf rock band.
Good reading: An app can be a home-cooked meal and not a growth-hungry beast. The Box, on the history of ocean-going container shipping. It wasn’t always that way! I took most of it as already established, having grown up in the eighties. Good backstory about the evolution of the US/world economy from the sixties onward; a lot of the globalization would not have happened if container shipping hadn’t drastically reduced the cost of shipping things by ship!
Good watching: The Crown, Season 3: the episode on Princess Margaret/LBJ is a cracker. More Prince Charles than I’d like, but I learned plenty. Parasite: excellent story, excellent acting, excellent world building & cinematography. The next best thing to Soderbergh shooting it.
I’ve hit a bit of a lull in publishing articles, but these three made it through: The littlest CRM, On system boundaries, On The Beautiful Ones.
Have a lovely week, may you spring forward with aplomb!
