Internet Todo List for Enthusiastic Thinkers, S2E04
I almost let this week slide, but a fantastic Beatles cover fell in my lap. How could I deprive you of a Beatles cover? I could not.
"She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". Let's talk about it.
D'Angelo, a somewhat pedestrian cover. Nothing extraordinary. Except an amazing musician who's been reclusive for well over a decade "decloaking" at last year's Bonaroo. With The Roots. Ending his set with "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". Strong move.
Of course, the best known cover is from Joe Cocker. Of course with the fantastic layering of vocals. Of course with the fantastic seventies soul-rock sound. Of course with Joe Cocker's delightfully energetic, raspy voice. Of course.
And a bonus round: Tina and Ike Turner. "She Came In…", plus "Get Back" and "Proud Mary". Proving that you can make most things better with a few horns and a lot of gritty soul moves.
And that's your musical fun for the week. Enjoy!
