That's a wrap on 2020
The time of year is upon us when things feel like they’re winding down. Even the days end earlier, for most of us. It’s the season for looking back, looking forward, or both. And thusly, I shall do both.
I’m Adam Keys and this is a bunch of things I’m enthusiastic about. If you’re wondering how you got here or realizing you’re just not into the things I’m enthusiastic about anymore, there’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom if you feel like it’s time.
My favorites of the year:
- TV: Ted Lasso. Just the kind of optimistic, humanist energy I needed this year and hope to bring into the new year.
- Music: the Prince Sign of the Times reissue. Not so much that I didn’t enjoy new music this year, but that I got to discover something new in music I’d already listened to a lot. It’s like if a new cut of Raiders of the Lost Ark was released and there were three more rooms of traps Indiana Jones had to make it through to reach the idol in the first act.
- Movie: Palm Beach. The quirky kind of Groundhog Day that I needed in 2020. Great cast, too.
What I’m most looking forward to next year:
- a deluge of Star Wars shows and movies
- new music from St. Vincent
- finishing my re-read of the Baroque Cycle & Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
- reading stuff other than Neal Stephenson 🤷♂️
That’s a wrap for 2020 here. It ends not with a whimper but lists. So it goes. I hope you have a great last week of the year and things look up for all of us as 2021 begins.
What book/album/movie/show do you most enjoy and feel it’s underrated?
