Tasty, tasty email content
Salutations! I’m Adam Keys and you’re here because, at some point in your past, you subscribed to my newsletter about interesting things you can enjoy and/or read. If that seems unlikely and unfamiliar, well that’s our sick sad world, but you can unsubscribe if you want. Since you’re still reading, thanks!, and let’s get on to the things of interest.
At some point we stopped calling it music or film or television or games and just “content” for our “timelines”. I’m not a fan of this etymological turn.
Nevertheless, my attention span is not yet fully addled by short-form videos and tweets. Indeed, I watched The Irishman; it is The Full Scorsese. Men do things in the seventies and eighties, mostly crime. Some go to jail, some die, some live to tell the tale. At least as good as Casino, probably not as good as Goodfellas.
Eye-candy/rich people non-sense: Catching Up With The Road-Legal 917 In Monaco. Of course someone exploited a loophole so they can drive, ill-advisedly, a race car worth millions of dollars around a city of fabulous wealth. On the other hand, it is a fantastic machine to look at and I would want to drive it as much as I could if I had one.
Current media diet:
- The “Picard” Star Trek spinoff pilot episode hit all the notes I didn’t realize I was missing. Feels like there’s lots of potential here. Jean-Luc Picard was a big fictional character in my formative years.
- Jojo Rabbit is amazing. I had no idea Taika could hit those notes. Go for the cast, stay for the story. Strongly recommended.
- The “Rise of the Resistance“ ride at Disneyland/World is the second best Star War of the year (The Mandalorian was the best). Feels like the sum of everything Disney Imagineering has learned over the past few years of new and re-imagined rides. Absolutely worth the virtual queue ritual, which wasn’t nearly as stressful as I’d worried it might be.
Finally, I have written things: on reading big books, when managing a team feels great, and how old things were better because our expectations about them were stable.
Enjoy all that content, may your week be well, and I’ll see you again in a few weeks!
