Recently in The Real Adam, waning edition
The evenings get longer, the mornings get darker, the holidays set in, and suddenly the year is done.
The thing I’ve learned from this year is more “motivational poster” than usual. It goes along with “the only way to learn is by falling down”, a bit of unlikely wisdom I picked up from a hockey player many years ago.
What I picked up this year is that an increase in “life lessons” is not necessarily bad luck. In fact, it’s an indicator that I’m (maybe) making my own luck by pushing outside of my routine or comfort zone. It’s likely I’ll make more mistakes (i.e. learn life lessons) when I’m doing that. Life lessons are tricky, but at least there’s a silver lining.
Currently prototyping: I built a thing with Python, SQLite tooling, FastHTML, and locally-hosted LLMs. It turned out pretty good!
Currently productive: thoughts on The Trouble with Tools, and I continue to wish Cultured Code would make notes a top-level concern in Things.
Currently reading: octopus friends, philosophy, finitude.
Currently Fischoder: wherein I enjoy the wisdom of Bob’s Burgers’ delightful not-quite oligarch, Calvin Fischoder.
Current jamming: Bill Anschell, Improbable Solutions.
