Now way through but together
New routines are emerging. Feels like we’ve moved on from sitting on our hands, biding time. We’re fully into the in-between time. Seven billion of us are experiencing this moment together.
In the information bubbles I inhabit, the realization is that our corporate and government institutions probably aren’t suited to support or create what comes next. Certainly they won’t accelerate or facilitate how we get there. It’s on all of us to make it through.
I’m Adam Keys and you’re here because, at some point in your past, you subscribed to my newsletter on interesting things you can enjoy and/or read. If that seems unlikely and unfamiliar, well that’s our sick sad world, but you can unsubscribe (link in the footer) if you want to. But since you’re still reading, thanks! Let’s get on to the things of interest.
As you might guess, I’ve been watching quite a bit of episodic television. Some highlights:
Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone (CBS) - still creepy, but even more modern. Best viewed in black & white.
What We Do In The Shadows (FX) - charming mockumentary style, but for vampires in a modern world. Same universe as the Taika Waititi movie of the same name.
Black Monday (Showtime) - excellent dark comedy set against the background of the Black Monday stock market crash (season 1) and the savings and loan crisis (season 2) of the 1980s.
RUN (HBO) - promising relationship drama/comedy. Starts on an impromptu train journey, so that’s charming.
Luckily, music continues in our strange time:
Questlove DJ’ing/streaming Prince - highest possible recommendation. Don’t miss the “liner notes” by Anil Dash and Miss TLC.
Thundercat, It Is What It Is - very Thundercat, very good.
Finally, I’ve managed to get a smidge of writing in lately. Whiteboard even if you’re distributed. Use as few rules as possible, mostly guidelines. So it goes.
Onwards and upwards!
