I stumbled upon a workable outlook on the suboptimal things in life. “Play the hand you’re dealt, but try to make the future better.” The first part encapsulates something I think I’m pretty good at right now - see the world as it is and work within that reality. The second part is the challenge for myself - look for how I can help make the future, the next hand, even better.
Do you find yourself obsessed with the imperfection of the now, the possibility of the future, or something in-between?
After the Soviet Union put Sputnik in orbit, a lot of military/space types were bummed. The Soviets had beat the US to a milestone in space exploration. Further, they could clearly put things in orbit which could possibly include weapons that would just fall out of the sky.
So, apparently, Project A119 was born. Herein, someone’s idea was the US would take something we were first at, nuclear detonations, and combine it with something that hadn’t been done yet, sending things to the moon.
Luckily, this project was scrapped in favor of the Apollo projects. Object proof that going with your first idea is often a very bad plan.
I’m not a big fan of holiday music; it’s a little too trite for me. That said, there are some decent songs out there, and some interesting collections. I’ve collected many of them in a playlist. I think my favorite album this year is James Brown’s Funky Christmas and my favorite song this holiday season is Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime.
Short episode this week, go out and enjoy whatever weather nature is throwing at you!
