Increasingly a condition you find enjoyable
Is there anything more joyful than Stevie Wonder’s music? I find that there is not! Any song, any era.
It is somehow still quite warm in Austin. I’m okay with it. I hope the weather is increasingly a condition that you find enjoyable.
I wouldn’t normally bring “work” in here, but this one is helpful for anyone who works around software developers: Is High Quality Software Worth the Cost? Martin Fowler makes an excellent case that software with higher internal quality is less of a carrying cost than software with lower internal quality. In this case, quality begets quantity.
I finished watching A Black Lady Sketch Show on HBO and it’s wonderful. Unique voice, novel-to-me perspectives all around. Terrific performers. And even a little a bit of a through-line of plot development. Recommended.
Still missing Prince, in part because Prince Hired This Guy To DJ A Date And He Knocked It Out Of The Park.
My current obsession has shifted away from a functional object, like a car or watch, and back to an old friend: Destiny. I am back on the grind for loot (stuff to make my character more powerful) and lore (the extensive, sometimes surprisingly good/deep/enigmatic backstory revealed by doing esoteric in-game activities).
A couple weeks ago, I solicited help getting through a challenging activity and someone from a Destiny Slack I frequent chimed in. We struggled a little bit, so that person brought in what is often the best kind of help: one of their offspring who is, ahem, much more accomplished at the game than we are. We made it through the activity, but the real win was getting to play with a father/son team. Multi-generational play is one of the best things about a game like Destiny.
Have a great three weeks!
