Just fix the thing
Mandatory Central Texas weather update: cold front came in last night. It is now cold in a seasonally-appropriate way. 🙁
I’m Adam Keys and this is a bunch of things I’m enthusiastic about. If you’re wondering how you got here or realizing you’re just not into the things I’m enthusiastic about anymore, there’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom if you feel like it’s time.
I’m a little dumb and a lot lazy. When things around the house cease to work Just Right, my first impulse is to live with it. The toilet that runs a little too long, the light bulb that went out, the drawer that doesn’t open or close quite right. Basically the only thing that I will attend to immediately, and I do mean immediately is a smoke alarm beeping its need for a fresh battery. Kudos to the person who designed that beep, job well done, I guess. 🤬
Overall this is pretty dumb on my part. I’m trying to not procrastinate these kinds of things around the house so much in the future. The accumulated little bits of disappointment or stress of the thing not working is more grief than the effort or expense of actually getting the thing fixed. Almost every time!
Related note to future self: get the house fixed up before deciding to buy another one. Actually enjoy those fix ups and improvements that I spent money on!
Currently watching and/or finishing:
- Earth to Ned is possibly the second-best late night talk show going right now. That sounds unremarkable, but it’s a Jim Henson Company puppets & humans production on Disney+. And the concept is Ned is an alien sent to destroy earth but fell in love with human pop culture and now he’s interviewing people on his own talk show. Delightful nonetheless.
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 3: starts off with the radio adventure stuff that is only so-so, but the plot arch starting with the Night Sisters is actually pretty dang good Star Wars. Consider: the showrunner, Dave Filoni, has told more Star Wars stories than anyone, even George Lucas. He’s pretty good at it. He’s currently working on The Mandalorian, the best Star War of the best few years.
- Man in the High Castle season 1: kinda mediocre throughout S1 but the arch through the last three episodes is pretty dang good! Fun fact: I consistently call this “Man in the High Tower” and I will never be able to get this straight in my head 🤷♂️
