I don’t want to brag but: I’m getting good at vacation. It helps that the vast majority of them are to a Disney park and that my wife does a lot of the logistics. I won’t claim I’m good at planning a vacation. But once the trip starts, I’m pretty dang good at unwinding and relaxing.
Constructing a sort of bubble and staying there is key. Turn off email, Slack, Twitter, etc. Avoid looking at those things by other means (notifications, a web browser, etc.) Make some rules about what to do instead: read a book, take pictures, practice mindfulness, etc. Then stay in that bubble instead of returning to the distractions you’re taking a vacation from. Don’t worry when the world outside the bubble pops back in for a moment; go back to the reading/photograph/mindfulness bubble.
Vacations differ, and so do their bubbles. Some vacations are from work, others from the din of the world. Some are vacations from thinking the way we think in this particular state or country, others are to set aside electronics and get right with your mind. Our vacations, whether the destination is Disneyland or Italy, North Carolina or Northern California, have been more enjoyable when I find the right kind of bubble and stay in it.
Of course, no newsletter is complete without at least one link. Here’s part of a Disney Imagineering course on how to make a ride. This is extremely in my wheelhouse.

Hope that makes your next vacation, to a Disney park our otherwise, more relaxing and enjoyable!
