Do Texans Dream of Summer Days?
If you have a conversation with a Texan in the summer and the weather doesn’t come up, you have to ask yourself some tough questions. Did that conversation really happen? Are they really a Texan?
I’m Adam Keys and you’re here because, in your past, you subscribed to this newsletter of interesting things you can enjoy and/or read. If that seems unlikely and unfamiliar, well, that’s our sick sad world, but you can unsubscribe (link in the footer) if you want to. But since you’re still reading, thanks!
This is not a sunset. It’s Vanessa Bet “Lady Cab Driver”. Named for Prince songs. She’s an English Cocker Spaniel. She has quickly moved from the “adorable” to “terror teeth” phase.
Unpausing of life continues. Getting a puppy helps! Socializing the dog gives us reason to venture back out to Texas’ not-entirely-well-considered reopened places of business. We went to a pet shop by a Trader Joe’s here in Austin. There were a far more people than I’d have expected out and about. Mostly masked, save a gaggle of idiot white men just standing around chatting, almost distanced. Despite that, it was nice to get out, see strangers, and be among the world. It’d be nice if our elected officials (I’m intentionally not using the word “leaders” here) got their act together and made going out to most of the places we used to go out a safe activity. Miracles can happen.
Lately, my energy is in publishing lots of short ideas and enthusiasms. Vintage street-legal race cars(featuring excellent stripes). On Mazzy Star, “dad rap”, and acceptable skits on hip-hop albums. Short sci-fi and Starship Troopers. And, of course, the weather.
Stay cool, and if you have the means, stay Texan.
