[CDS] Day 1 – Texas Highways
There are some archetypes you might notice after several hours on Texas' highways.
I’m Adam Keys and you’re reading “Current Desk Situation”, a brief travelogue from Austin, TX to Portland, OR.
The first day on our journey. We have left Austin, en route to Amarillo. Somewhere ahead is where we’ll live next. There’s an infinitesimal chance we will stop short and end up someplace surprising.
Current desk situation! Tethering to a phone, working from a laptop is drama-free so far. For many reasons, I won’t try any video conferences or screen sharing, but the regular remote knowledge worker stuff is all pretty smooth.
We stopped in Amarillo today. It’s a much bigger town than I’d imagined. That said, Cadillac Ranch was just down the road, so we visited it. Pretty neat, but also very windy that day.
This is something you’ll notice if you drive enough of Texas’ highway network: kinda delightfully weird use of materials just off the road. I suppose this is true of any state, but there’s so much of Texas that it seems more like a quality of the land, and not just a thing people do.
