The Python Corner monthly newsletter, May 2020
The Python Corner monthly newsletter, May 2020
When I first started this newsletter, the only thing I wanted to do was giving my audience some links to valuable content online each month.
So I started collecting articles and links in my Instapaper account, and I created an automatic newsletter on Mailchimp based on the RSS feed of my Instapaper account.
In this way, I could prepare this newsletter with a low effort, but at what price? I got a poor result for a poor newsletter. And that’s not what I wanted.
I want a valuable product, with valuable content for valuable people.
Starting from today this newsletter will change in almost every aspect. Let see the three more important ones:
- Quality content. I will probably give you fewer links than before but just for stuff that I believe is really cool. Your time is precious and I don’t want you to waste it reading articles that are “just ok”.
- Curated content. For every link, I will give you a brief description of what to expect following that link and the level of audience intended for that content, so that if you are a beginner you could avoid reading an article for advanced users and vice versa.
- Handcrafted Newsletter. Yes, you will never more read automatically generated stuff taken from an RSS feed, you will read a curated handmade newsletter, every single month.
Are you ready for the new format? Keep reading!
This month’s Links
Build Physical Projects With Python on the Raspberry Pi – Real Python Author: Jason Van Schooneveld Audience Level: Intermediate
You know what? I love my Raspberry Pi! And thanks to this Real Python’s article you will too!
Raspberry Pi is a complete single-board computer with the size of a deck of cards at a really fair price. It's great for makers and based on Raspberry OS (formerly known as Raspbian), a Linux Debian fork.
Don't ask what you can do with a Raspberry, ask what you can't!
Python 3.9 - The Shape of Things to Come
Author: Nikola M. Zivkovic Audience Level: All levels
Just 121 days left to October the 5th when Python 3.9 will be released to the public. And this article will tell you what to expect from it.
Hypermodern Python Author: Claudio Jolowicz Audience Level: Intermediate/Proficient
I wish the author of this article was me! This is not just an article, it's a trip to ”how-to-create-a-Python-project-in-2020” town.
In this article you will start from zero building a simple but working project in Python and using all the tools needed to create a modern application.
The article is made of five chapters that cover all the stages of this work: Setup, Testing, Linting, Typing, Documentation, and CI/CD. My link points to the first one, but there you will find all the links to the other chapters so keep reading it till the end.
I consider this is an invaluable content you can't miss!
A Special Gift for you
The last link for this month is a little gift for you from our friends of Manning Publications. It's a 40% discount to buy their books.
I already wrote my opinion about them in a recent post so I won't be long here: they are cool! They are the 2020 idea of how an IT book should be and their authors are really great professionals.
Give them a try and you will thank me.
Support The Python Corner
If you like the site or the newsletter and you want to help me keep up with them, consider the idea of buying me a coffee, like you’d do with a coworker that gave you good advice. It's just a few bucks for you that can make a big difference for me.
And if you find this newsletter useful, share it with your friends and on your social networks.
That's all folks, thank you for reading me and... Happy coding!
