Who reports on the reporters?

Surprising absolutely no one, the highly anticipated Sue Gray report amounts to twelve pages of nothing. Why anyone thought that a report from a senior civil servant with possible ties to the secret services would usefully hold her friends in government to account is beyond us, but nonetheless the Metropolitan Police took it upon themselves to delay, censor and stifle this joke of a document.
Speaking of the Met, further revelations of the force's culture of misogyny came out this week, just in time for the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill to make its final pass through the House of Lords. While much was made of the Lords voting down some of the controversial clauses relating to protest in the Bill, sections that give police more power to attack the marginalised, especially those living non-sedentary lifestyles, remain intact. Cries for reform of policing institutions are as futile now as they ever were; the time is ripe to defund the entire apparatus, and abolish the Home Office too while we're at it.

Just to clarify once more, The Norwich Radical is not implementing a paywall or a subscription fee - all the writing and artwork we publish will still be available for free on our site.
Steady is a fundraising platform which will, in time, allow us to be both self-sufficient and be able to finally pay all our writers and editors, a goal which we have been working towards since founding the publication.
Anything you can do, including sharing the Steady page, will help, and we thank you for it.
We hope you'll join us.
