We're hiring ...

May has ended and we're a week from the General Election. Over the last month we as a collective have visited Ukraine, explored our local Women's Institutes, scrutinised journalism in 2017 on more than one occasion, got mad (in Howard Beale 'Network' style) about the Local Elections, argued that togetherness is the new autonomy for sisterhood, spoken out about Yarl's Wood again and again, looked at how not to interview a black artist, investigated Norfolk's offshore wind efforts, figured out how to pack for tour as a woman in a band, stomached the news that the University of East Anglia (UEA) is closing its counselling programme and given over space to UEA Islamic Society to speak out at shock announcement that UEA is closing the Muslim prayer space on campus. We've reviewed Ali Smith, Naomi Alderman, Jenn Hart, Nick Spencer's Captain America, Sh!t Theatre's Letter to Windsor House, True Stories Live, and Zaia's debut album Butterflies. We've also opened up a Student & the Election series and given over space to progressive prospective parliamentary candidates in Norwich North & South.
May has also been difficult as well as productive. The news has not brought too many positive lights on world affairs and politics, with elections (in the UK and abroad), summits, threats, terrorism, and short historical memory taking up the spotlight in the media. This is a narrative we wish to challenge and change, as we've highlighted every year in talk with War of Words, our progressive media conference - if you've never attended, you can see what happened in 2017 below.
As Alex's first month as Co-Editor wraps up, we're now looking to fill the Arts Editor slot he left behind him. Interested in joining The Norwich Radical editorial team? Know someone who is all things arts-shaped? Check out our vacancy, share it around, and apply by midnight Saturday June 18th.
Whatever the outcome of the General Election, we will keep fighting for a progressive and independent media. We have done so since 2014, and it's what fuels The Norwich Radical and our events. Thank you for reading & supporting us.
In solidarity,
Alex and Cadi
Co-Editors, The Norwich Radical
