Ukraine, minorities and media exploitation

Subscriber A month later, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine is still proceeding. Civilians are made to evacuate and then killed. Students, workers, and general population are forced to leave their lives, and then faced with more discrimination and ridiculous demands - from borders, bureaucracy, and those who claim to be supporting the people of Ukraine. Just not those people.

As we have previously stated, The Norwich Radical remains committed to standing in full solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and the people of Russia, who categorically refuse this senseless war.

We also stand against the hypocrisy shown and violence perpetrated by Fortress Europe and its member states against ethnic and gender minorities trying to flee conflict, as well as that of the UK government.
Independent and anti-hegemonic media outlets remain crucial at times like these, especially as NATO-, Euro-, US-centric narratives are swallowed whole by established media and force-fed to their audiences. Especially those in conflict areas such as Ukraine, exploited by that very same imperial agenda which claims to protect and support them.

The Independent Media Association and its members are putting forward their best efforts to counteract those narratives, including through events such as the Media Democracy Festival, held just last week.

You can see their panels, organised and run by The Media Reform Collective, for free on YouTube here. Which leads us to lighter note from the past month: The Norwich Radical received two Independent Media Awards!

We share the award for Best Culture and Arts Publication with Mydylarama and Radical Art Review, while we share the award for Best Regional/Local Outlet with Manchester Meteor and South Rugby News.

We are proud of this recognition of our work through the years. We wouldn't be able to produce that work without our editors, contributors, volunteers, members and supporters. So thank you!

If you would like to financially support our work, and get involved with our supporter community, head over to our Steady page!
We hope, as always, that in the coming month you are able to stay safe, stay educated, and do what you can to help those around you.
