A Growing Collective

Subscriber It's only been a month, but 2021 is already proving to be a year of exciting growth for us here at The Norwich Radical. As you may have heard, we are currently looking for new writers for all of our sections. If you're interested in writing about art, politics, identity or local or student issues, we want to hear from you. And if you're not keen on applying at this time but know someone who might be, please do pass on the details to them.

We are also very pleased to welcome not one but two new artists to the team: Samantha Rajasingham and V. Arun Kumar (a.k.a. Rebel Politik).

Samantha is of four countries (Singapore, Canada, France, UK). Her art practice started in photography and moved towards the conceptual, finally ending in instructions, and then nothing at all.

Arun is a New Delhi based political illustrator, freelance multimedia journalist, and a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Curious to understand the role of visual communication in political activism, he explores and employs various visual media for the purpose of agitation propaganda.

You can see Arun's first contribution to the Radical here.

Look out for more excellent work from both Sam and Arun in the coming weeks and months! The past month saw the UK's Coronavirus death count reach the 6-figure mark. You don't need us to tell you that Boris Johnson's remarks on the passing of this milestone were both breathtakingly dishonest and deeply self-interested. But it does bear mentioning that his attempt at empathy was celebrated in the right wing press, on the covers of the Sun, the Daily Mail and elsewhere. With a new Murdoch-owned TV channel due to launch in the UK soon, it is more important than ever that we stand up for independent media. We are currently working on building new partnerships to this end - expect further details soon.

As ever, our thoughts are with those who continue to struggle to save lives under such difficult conditions, and with those who have lost people close to them. Stay strong, stay angry, and stay safe.
