Help Fund the Nonbinarian BOOKSTORE! 😲
For trans & nonbinary folks like myself, birthdays can be an auspicious time. But when I turned 34 two years ago, I was finally able to conceive of a future—not just my own, but our collective trans futures. Filled with a sudden sense of urgency, I didn’t want to wait. And so The Nonbinarian Book Bike was born.
Since October 2022, The Nonbinarian Book Bike has evolved and grown beyond what I or any of us ever could have imagined.
And now we’re inviting you to help us in realizing that future—together—as we open our very own all-queer, worker-owner, brick-and-mortar cooperative bookstore right here in Brooklyn: The Nonbinarian Bookstore.
With your financial support backing our Kickstarter campaign, we will be able to provide even more queer books to folks and build a community space centering us. Help us reach our goal so we can help our neighbors see themselves on the shelves all year round.

Back The Nonbinarian Bookstore on Kickstarter today!
We’re opening a Holiday Pop-Up Storefront!
In the meantime, we are opening a pop-up storefront for this holiday season to preview what The Nonbinarian Bookstore can become!
Located at 617 Flatbush Ave. (formerly “Awesome Brooklyn”), right in the heart of Prospect Lefferts Gardens, we are down the block from the Q Parkside Ave stop, which was where we first kicked off our Book Bike outings!
Our inventory will be entirely queer, from new and used books to gifts & goods. The people behind the counter, gay as heck. The decor, the vibe… you get it. Even our baby Book Bike will be there doing her free book thing.
The official pop-up opening date will be announced in our next newsletter! Stay tuned!
To celebrate the Nonbinarian’s second birthday, we’re hosting two book club meetings this month! Double, double, toil and trouble…
The first book we’re reading in October is Ten Bridges I’ve Burnt by Brontez Purnell, a memoir-in-verse that explores race, sex, and capitalism. Join us on Friday, October 25 at 8 p.m. ET on Zoom to meet other club members and chat about the book! The Zoom link will be sent out on the day of the meeting.
The second is The Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado, Dani, Tamra Bonvillain, and Steve Wands. Join us for a special meeting on Wednesday, October 30 at 8 p.m. ET on Zoom to meet other club members and chat about the book! The Zoom link will be sent out on the day of the meeting.
The Nonbinarian Book Club is partnered with Bluestockings Cooperative. You can purchase this month's Nonbinarian Book Club book at Bluestockings to support their mission and ours! Click here to order online and use code BOOKBIKE for 15% off at checkout.
If you prefer to listen to the audiobook, support indie bookstores and the Book Bike by purchasing through Libro.fm and selecting us as your store of choice!
Books purchased from our Bluestockings Cooperative wishlist will be donated directly to the bike for free distribution.
The Nonbinarian Book Bike is also proud to partner with the following organizations for our community reading events! Please check out their mission statements and support them however possible.
🌠 Reading 4 Black Lives Project
Finally, The Nonbinarian Book Bike is partnered with Trans formative Schools, "a progressive education community centering trans joy and social justice." The organization aims to uplift trans children and educators, as well as families "touched by transness," through the implementation of a free afterschool program for ages 9-15. Trans formative Schools' dream is to create a liberal middle school that employs rigorous academics, identity exploration, and more.
All books purchased from this Bookshop wishlist will go directly to Trans formative Schools. The Nonbinarian Book Bike receives a portion of each purchase, which helps us pay for storage, bike maintenance and upkeep, and more. By purchasing from this list, you directly support two trans-led organizations and support indie bookstores through Bookshop.org.
