Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes 📚🍂

K and I opened the store in 2024 because, in an increasingly intensifying socioeconomic and political climate, queer/trans books and spaces in the US were becoming scarce. I'm a firm believer that a good community bookstore is a mirror of that community in both need as well as interest. Since the Nonbinarian Bookstore opened two years ago, lots of things have changed — and I think it's time our shelves do, too.
As a response to the last few weeks and months of tightening restrictions on queer/trans communities of color, I'd like to expand our offerings along the lines of the following:
In both our used book buying, and new book curation, we are especially interested in bringing in books by and about Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, radical politics, and theory, in addition to weird & witchy books, plays, graphic novels, poetry, hard to find queer fiction, classic & contemporary trans authored books; the emphasis being why this book belongs in our store, not just who authored it.
Lastly, I'd like to stress that adding these subjects to our inventory is not a move away from queer/trans books. "None of us are free 'till all of us are free," as Fannie Lou Hamer says, and I'd like the Nonbinarian's stock to reflect the totality of that struggle — as comrades, friends, and equals.

We Want Your Books!
We accept book donations for appraisal on Mondays and Fridays during regular store hours 12pm-7pm.
We emphasize queer & trans authored books. As we branch out our scope to include more voices in collective liberation, we are making exceptions for radical organizing texts & titles that fit within our larger values as a collective.
Buy backs in exchange for store credit. More used book policy info here.

Trans people are in the midst of hard time. That’s nothing new. To find ways to survive &, despite everything, thrive in the new/old regime, we turn to our elders, who have been through it all before.
Hosted monthly by Nonbinarian Alexander (he/him), meeting on the last Monday of the month on-site in-store at The Nonbinarian Bookstore & virtually on Zoom. Each month we will collectively suggest & choose our next book together.

This month, we'll be reading Before Gender by Eli Erlick (available in print for direct-to-home shipping from Bookshop.org, as an e-book, or on audiobook from Libro.fm).
Free. No need to have read in order to attend. Trancestors attendees receive an in-store discount. Join us online or in person on Monday, September 28 from 7pm-8:30pm ET.
