Liner Notes: I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

by Leigh Chadwick

“At the Bottom of Everything”

It’s the Valium dripping down my throat that blurs the weather. What doesn’t crash soon will. It’s the reverb of Omaha that gives the Midwest a migraine. I hear he owns a bar now. I hear he called my old roommate, and that it took him three syllables to say Leigh.

I used to listen to Iron & Wine to help myself fall asleep. Now, I walk through walls and crisscross the sun until I’m too tired to stand. Somewhere and everywhere, a baby cries. I miss the last Camel Light in the pack of Camel lights. Flipped upside down. Lighting cherry. Waiting for the luck that will never come.
