Terraforming March!

Play Biome! Save the World?

by Mark

Hello and welcome to The Misplay! We spent a lot of January laying the foundations for both the podcast and the partnership. February has been focused on the board game part of our tagline: a podcast about making a board game company that makes board games. We had the privilege of sitting under the learning tree of Lioness Games founder, Leonie Grundler.

A few weeks prior, Jason had sent me on a homework assignment to playtest Biome at a local meet-up in San Francisco. It was a privilege to learn how to play Biome directly from Leonie. I had the opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of a live playtest in action. I watched as questions arose from players, and Leonie adeptly answered. I listened to the way she solicited and recorded feedback from players. I also got a sneak preview of the story that Leonie would tell us on the podcast.

Hopefully, you have listened to 'Building Biome.' We mentioned on the show that we were going to attend the Biome Kickstarter launch party at Gamescape in San Francisco. Jason and I got to play two complete games of Biome. We met a few other local game designers who turned out to support, and some of Leonie's support network and team. The Biome Kickstarter campaign is underway, and last I checked, it was 1800% percent funded. If you haven't reserved your copy yet, I highly recommend backing the game.

On a related note, I won the first bet of the relaunch of the podcast. Jason and I occasionally make small bets, with the winner often being treated to boba. Jason was really drawn to my use of the word "capstone" during the second episode. The bet was how many times I had said capstone during the recording session. The answer was two, Jason thought at least seven, the line was +2.5, and as a result, I was victorious. Jason bought the boba for our recording session with Leonie.

Coasters

by Jason

I know you are following us on Instagram, right? Right? If you are, you have seen the very dope-looking Misplay coasters currently in use at a local-game store, The Game Parlour.

I want to thank Scott and Brian, two members of The Misplay, for their time and effort to make the coasters a reality. I have always viewed myself as an idea person, but ideas do not take you very far nor are they worth much. I have had this idea for a better way to open canned tuna fish for the better part of twenty years. So what? Scott and Brian took my coaster idea and made it real.

I love that the QR code on the coaster has a unique URL that allows us to track its effectiveness. The goal of the coasters is to drive people to our website and hopefully convert them into listeners. Like all of you.
