Birdspan!

Perfectionist

Hello and welcome to The Misplay newsletter. One of the things Jason and I have learned about the early steps of this project is that we want to make sure to tell our narrative in a compelling, entertaining, and hopefully useful way. We are probably going to tell you over and over again that we are not experts or professionals, and that you should not follow in our footsteps. It has always been the way we think about ourselves or the brand. So let me tell you a story that might fall into the category of misplay.

Once upon a time when we were in the early planning phases to launch the podcast, we were planning on turning the extra room in my apartment into the studio. We put up some sound-proofing panels, jury-rigged a blanket as a partition to cut the size of the room down, and brought all the recording equipment to my place. We outlined our first episode, scheduled a time to record, sat down to record in the new studio and recorded episode one.

One of the pillars of the podcast is to have the highest audio quality possible. I got a message from Jason. There was a problem with the audio from the space. So we dismantled the studio, brought the equipment back to Jason's place, and reassembled the studio there. We scheduled another time, reviewed our show document, and recorded again. We were starting to get our feet under us. The second go was fun. I ran into Jason at work later that week. He had me listen to the audio and we came to the conclusion that the episode was missing a little je na se quoia. Jason asked me to come by again and we re-recorded one more time. The third time proved to be the charm and now we're off and running with our episode release schedule.

After recording episode two, Jason invited me over after work this past Friday. What do you think he asked me when I walked inside?

What's Next?

February will see the release of two new podcasts that will feature our initial game pitches and an interview with Biome game designer Leonie Grundler. We are focused this month on uploading more companion content to Instagram. Board games are incredibly visual and podcasts are, of course, auditory. We want to try and marry the two so you can better follow our story.

We are sending this first newsletter out to less than two dozen people, and yet knowing that you each took the time and curiosity to subscribe in our infancy means more to us than you know.

Everything Mark said above is true and we did re-record episode two too.
