Shopify Theme Vitals: May 2025

The Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) data for May 2025 is now live on Theme Vitals. In this post, I’ll cover:
- Change in the data population
- Aggregated theme performance changes

Change in data population
The total number of Shopify websites included in the data set increased slightly.
New themes added this month were Volume, Charm, Purely, Elixira, Desert, Seasons, Monochrome, and Zero. No themes were dropped. I now show 295 total themes.
Aggregated performance across all themes
Here are the median, min, and max performance numbers on mobile for all the Shopify themes measured on mobile devices:

Performance dipped slightly on nearly all metrics this month, reflecting the performance of the overall web. The Chrome team has not identified any particular reason for this though historically there's often a dip in May (more info).
Most improved themes
For mobile devices, these themes had the most improvement in passing all Core Web Vitals:
- Toyo: 9.5 points (76 origins)
- Andaman: 7.0 points (82 origins)
- Forge: 6.3 points (136 origins)
- Electro: 5.9 points (141 origins)
- Nimbus: 4.7 points (118 origins)
For desktop devices, these themes improved the most:
- Next: 5.7 points (61 origins)
- Mandolin: 3.3 points (71 origins)
- Atlantic: 2.8 points (324 origins)
- Editions: 2.6 points (123 origins)
- Upscale: 2.5 points (75 origins)
When themes on these lists have a small number of origins/market share, some of the improvements could be due to the underlying population of websites changing.
Highest market growth
As a reminder, the market share numbers calculated in Theme Vitals are not the same as number of installs. Here, we’re calculating market share based on the number of origins (websites/domains) in CrUX. CrUX only shares data for websites that reach a certain threshold of popularity. This threshold sometimes changes. To learn more, check out the methodology page for CrUX.
Growth in number of origins
The themes that already have the largest market shares usually have the highest growth in number of origins. Dawn returned to the top 5 this month:
Mobile
- Dawn: 1366
- Concept: 337
- Trade: 195
- Sleek: 163
- Prestige: 159
On desktop, the top 5 themes are:

- Dawn: 780
- Concept: 266
- Prestige: 182
- Enterprise: 126
- Sleek: 103
Percent growth in origins
Raw growth is interesting but usually focuses too much on the existing themes with high market share. Here, I show which themes are growing the fastest on a percentage basis:
Mobile
- Hyper: 107.1%
- Cello: 95.5%
- Stretch: 90.3%
- Flux: 67.3%
- Refine: 50.0%
Desktop
- Hyper: 119.4%
- Stretch: 118.9%
- Wonder: 53.1%
- Ignite: 27.9%
- Ascent: 26.2%
