April Showers Bring May Flowers

The Luminarium Archive

Ever so gently the plants in my garden are putting out shoots and buds, getting ready to unfurl into beautiful blooms. I honestly can’t wait for everything to bloom.

I walked by a lilac bush yesterday, branches heavy with purple and white blossoms - and the scent was so exquisite it stopped me in my tracks.

When was the last time you observed something beautiful? Was it a sunset or flowers by the side of the road? What was it that made you stop, take a breath and think wow, how beautiful?

We stop to watch the colors of the sky change as the sun rises over the horizon and we feel a sense of awe. This pause to take in the expanse of the sky lifts our spirits, reminds us that maybe we’re not quite alone in this world. We see a beautiful painting and we connect over the shared experience, maybe even feel moved to go home and create something beautiful.

When days are difficult, beauty can provide solace and a space to deeply feel gratitude.

It reminds us that life is not just about survival but also about finding joy, wonder, and purpose. I grow flowers every summer because they fill my home with beauty and remind me that tender beauty returns to our lives each year.

The garden reminds me there are cycles to life, and that we can remain resilient through it all, with the promise of blooms somewhere ahead. The beauty of my flower garden is not static but ever-changing, reflecting the different phases of life.

This is also why so much of my artistic work is filled with flowers - a constant reminder of both resilience and beauty.

One of my favorite pieces right now is this postcard print that I drew of chamomile - a delicate herbal flower that never ceases to delight me. View Here
