A System for Writing Is Now Available for Purchase!
Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered A System for Writing. Those pre-ordz went shockingly well, and the book remained at #1 in the "New Releases" section of the Writing Skills category for almost a week. I think it even slipped into the #1 slot of the Writing Skills "Best Seller" category for a red-hot steamy minute, but don't quote me on that.
Here's What I Need from You
Now it's time for us to get busy. I need you to buy this book like crazy over the next five days. Apparently, the thousand-eyed bot-bugs at Amazon get really excited when a new release sells every day for five consecutive days. No idea why. No idea if that's entirely true. But, let's pretend it is. This is our vision quest:
When a new book sells for five days straight, it shows up in the "Suggested" and "Promoted" spots on Amazon. Which is a damn good thing for sales.

Some Juicy PR Copy
A System for Writing takes readers through the entire process of capture to creation. Going far beyond the “how-to” of typical zettelkasten 101s, A System for Writing will help you understand the intricacies of using a Luhmann-style slip box for creative work. To that end, you’ll learn to:
- Effortlessly capture ideas before they slip away
- Save the most relevant insights from reading
- Connect information in profound and unexpected ways
- Transform individual notes into articles, blogs, and books
- Start every writing session with words already on the page
- Develop a system for writing that not only supports creativity, but inspires it
Included are over sixty examples of notes, along with dozens of workflow diagrams, procedures, and cross-references.
Some Juicy Not-PR Copy
Let me be frank.... I wrote this book for you, my readers. People who have lots of brilliant ideas, who know they want to flesh them out in writing, who know they should be writing, but haven't quite figured out a way to pull it off. At least not as often or with as much confidence as they'd like to.
I genuinely want to change that.
Imagine sitting down to write and, rather than staring at a blank screen, you opened up a huge database of ideas—your ideas!—and used them to "build" blog posts, articles, essays, and books. I'm here to convince you that by capturing and connecting ideas in a zettelkasten, you can do this.
That's what I show you how to do in my book. Let me know if I succeeded by picking up a copy, reading it, and reviewing it.
In the meantime....
As many of you know, I took a hiatus from this newsletter over the past year or so, due in part to both our homesteading project and writing this book. Now that one of those is complete (and I have yet to be consumed by my next book), I'm hoping to get back into some form of regular newsletter vibes. What that looks like will be revealed in the coming weeks.
What I can say is that I'm excited to do the following:
- Keep promoting this book and spreading the Gospel of zettelkasten
- Start work on my next book (I've got a few ideas)
- Talk about how I write books so you can write them, too
- Talk about what I've learned trying to write a "useful" book
'Til then....
