Dear readers,
Everyone is trying to funnel you into something more expensive.
So, what do you do? Avoid the funnel by scraping the free stuff before it sucks you in. (Me too).
I'm the type of person who makes due with the (s)crappiest of equipment just so I don't have to pay.
- When I was 10 years old, I found an electric guitar in the trash. I played it in bands for almost a decade before I bought a new one.
- I used to skate half-pipe on a shitty skateboard my mom got me for Christmas (it weighed twice as much as a "real" skateboard).
- My first surfboard (the one I got "good" on) had a broken fin.
- I wrote Sitting With Spirits on a crappy Chromebook (without a hard drive).
- My last cellphone repeatedly made little incisions in my thumbs from the cracked screen.
I'm a big believer in scraping as much out of something before I move on to bigger and better things. It's taught me well.
Thrifty intellectuals and writers do the same, milking every bit of intel from what they read and watch for free online. The only problem is, what's online is both aggressive and insulting. It's marketing. It's click bait. It's garbagio.
My upcoming AMA on writing is nothing like that.
