Dear readers,
I designed The System for Writing Master Course so those who couldn't (or didn't want to) take the whole thing could take just a portion of it. Well, guess what? Your portion has arrived.
Module 2: Writing with Your Zettelkasten begins February 18. It's a course for writers (incl. those who would-be and should-be) in the midst of building and working their system, but not to its fullest potential. It's a course for creatives (rogue academics, "real" academics, musers, poets, essayists, bloggers, and "content" creators alike) who want to orient their zettelkasten toward writing, toward output, toward making sure they always having something to write about.
It's is a full-on, behind-the-scenes look at how I do things, how you might do things, and how to make all the things work on behalf of your creativity.
On February 18, you'll begin learning how to:
- Source notes and ideas from your zettelkasten so you always start with an abundance of material
- Decide which topical interests to devote your time
- Know when you've got enough material so you can call it quits
- Repurpose ideas for multiple projects
- Let the zettelkasten show you what to write about
- Enjoy getting lost in your zettelkasten
- Structure your arguments
- Locate holes in your arguments
- Cut out arguments that don't serve you
- And, quite a bit more....
I mean that. There's absolutely "quite a bit more."
My approach to teaching has always been: sketch as comprehensive a class ahead of time, and leave plenty of room to redirect the material toward what's most relevant to the cohort. So, yes. I'll show you everything that can fit into five weeks / ten sessions. But, we'll definitely get into areas I hadn't planned.
What does this look like? Here's some of what we've been getting into in Module 1: Building Your Zettelkasten (going on right now) that wasn't planned:
- "How do you decide if its 'worth the effort' to work on certain fleeting notes or reference notes?" (Michael J)
- "Do reference notes in our system get an alphanumeric code, or should we use a different system?" (Thomas Z)
- "Do the terms 'networked' and 'linked' mean the same thing?" (Bob F)
- "Can you use ZK if you're working on a specific writing project?" (Kesham Z)
- "Do you do ref notes for everything you read?" (Chris E)
- "How do you handle the paper + digital interface" Do you transcribe your handwritten notes?" (Michael A)
- "Are reference notes on PDFs best done in Zotero?" (Bob F)
None of this was planned. All of it was answered. And, that's just the Zoom chat.
Now, imagine a course on leveraging your zettelkasten for writing. Imagine having a teacher who's been writing publicly for over thirty years (me), teaching for over twenty (me), planning out each class (me), but making it flexible enough so you can ask whatever you want (you).
