No. 107 Wanna take just one section of my course?
No. 107 • 1/7/2025
Dear readers,
I knew from the moment I decided to do another course on writing with a zettelkasten (the new and improved iteration starting January 14, 2025, so get on that sign-up if you're wanting to get in) that I was going to make it both longer (nine weeks instead of four) and deeper ("nitty gritty" as opposed to "overview").
I also knew that not everyone was going to be able to invest in the full course, either for financial reasons or because of the time the course requires. So, to help people out, I divided the course into two modules, each of which can be taken on its own:
Module 1 is everything you could possibly need to start working with a zettelkasten. It is comprehensive. As reviewers of my book [here] and [here] repeatedly say, it's "clear, concise, and to the point." By the end of Module 1, you'll not only be connecting ideas in radical, inspiring ways, expanding your insights in ways you hadn't thought possible, you'll be able to talk with others about how and why you do the things you do. In other words, you'll have a system you can both leverage and articulate. Find out more [here].
Module 2 is different. Module 2 is for people who already work their zettelkasten, but not to their or its fullest potential. It's a course for writers and should-be-writers who want orient their system toward output, always having something to write about, and writing more frequently. This is a full-on behind-the-scenes look at how I do things, how you might do things yourself, and how to make it all work on behalf of your creativity. Find out more [here].
You will not miss out by taking only one module
Modules 1 and 2 are not "levels."
"Module 2: Writing with a Zettelkasten" is not a "more complete picture" of the course as a whole. Nor is "Module 1: Building Your Zettelkasten" an incomplete take on working with a zettelkasten. Each is deep dive into a particular aspect of the practice.
So.... Not interested in writing with a zettelkasten? Or, not ready to invest in the writing side of knowledge work (but maybe you will be someday)? Take Module 1.
Already taken one of my previous courses on writing with a zettelkasten? Or, maybe you've read my book, A System for Writing, and can clearly articulate the primary note types, their functions, the main principles, and practices associated with a zettelkasten? Email me and –> Take Module 2.
Regardless of what you choose, I think you're going to find the classes super engaging and enlightening.
Getting really excited for this one. Hope to see you there.
With love,
Bob
What I'm up to
- Talking with PKM Summit about possibly flying to The Netherlands to speak at their conference in March 2025.
- For some reason, I find busting up misconceptions about how alphanumeric IDs (aka "folgezettel") function in a zettelkasten a pleasurable act. I'm not even that invested in whether people use folgezettel or not. I just love talking about it, and have a couple of very short articles on said topic in the works.
- Rereading Gene Wolfe's The Shadow of the Torturer (future-feudal scifi). It was and remains great. Also, surprising to me, rereading David Deida's Way of the Superior Man (very Boulder, CO masc-fem sexuality stuff). I've been around Deida's writing and teachings for almost two decades, though I haven't really given them much of a glance in the past ten years. It's tricky stuff for a lot of people, and thought I'd take a peek with older, more mature eyes.
