permission to dance 💃🏽

Hey friends, how are you? Thanks for opening! Some exciting updates from this past week--bear with me as I write them down, plus some other things, in this letter. Hope you still find something useful here. -K

Oh wow, hello July. Anybody else feel like the days are going by faster now that we've hit the halfway point of the year? :)

In any case, things are looking up--the Company finally began the rollout of its vaccines, and I was lucky enough to be able to join the first salvo this week at the PLDT site in Sta Ana, Manila. Thanks to the group's vaccine task force, which has been hard at work since the start of the year with its information campaign, efforts to set up the backend of the rollout which involved the registration, etc., the entire process took under an hour on a Thursday afternoon. Honestly amazing. So glad the whole QR-reliant system has held up so far. So grateful also to the volunteer team that is putting this together--many of whom are also my teammates :)

Media recs

  • We finally finished the K-Drama "Her Private Life" on Netflix, a surprisingly tender series set in a museum. It is initially sold to you as a story about a fangirl; you stay for the art curator-museum director AU; and you leave with a heartwarming story about [flawed] mothers doing their best. My favorite part of it is a small arc concerning second leading man Eun-gi (Ahn Bo Hyun) teaching judo to an intimate class of small boys. My heart.

  • Speaking of unexpected heartwarming things: At which point of Permission to Dance did you tear up? Mine was when they started taking off their masks 😭😭😭 I've seen people point out that this song is not really Dynamite nor Butter adjacent--it's actually a twin of last year's COVID anthem, "Life Goes On", which is apt. It feels like your really laid-back friend who loves simple things and is looking forward to seeing you again.

Bonus fun fact: They used international sign language in the choreo: Happy, dance, peace.
