here comes march!

Manila, 2 March—February was short and busy! After our trip, I finally had time to focus on the last few edits of my paper for defense—which turned out to be not so few HAHAHA what’s new.

So yeah I ended up writing for that for most of the second half of February, because the deadline for application was last Saturday. That said: I’d like to ask for your prayers as I gear up for the defense itself this month!

Thank you!

Anyway: In between all that revising, we managed to catch Greta Gerwig’s Little Women at the cinemas, and oh wow Florence Pugh! What a voice timbre, can I just say? I can’t unsee that she and Saoirse are like two halves of Kate Winslet. It’s insane.

The ensemble is fantastic, and though I see myself in Jo March the most, I also felt for her sisters, especially Amy March, although the #RealGoalz is really Aunt March (also because Meryl Streep, hello). And where do we even start with Timothée Chalamet—I mean, he’s basically the fifth sister (siiiiissszt)! Would have been the better ending, 10/10.

Also: I’m so confused about Laura Dern—I’d like for her to be my mom, my Admiral, and my divorce lawyer-friend. Ang hirap! What a comeback though, for a woman who played Ellen’s TV girlfriend in the 90s (and professionally paid for it!) Totally deserving of this tribute from the Los Angeles Gay Men’s Choir at the 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards:

Some other personal updates:

  • Celebrated Dad’s 75th with a low-key celeb last weekend.

  • Met up for the first time with fellow volunteers at Cats of Salcedo! The group supports TNR, fostering, and finding furever homes for stray cats in the village. If you’re interested to donate, adopt, volunteer as fosters—DM is key, god knows the page needs all the hands it can get :)

Heads up, Salcedo-ians (Salcedo-istas?), Our little kitty community is always in need of good, proper food for the strays. Fat Albert would agree. And in the spirit of kindness, we’d like to make sure that what’s being fed to our kitties won’t hurt them in the long run.

So here’s a handy list of what food to feed, and what food NOT to feed our favorite strays:

    WHAT NOT TO FEED 🙅‍♀️
❌ Cow’s milk – Common misconception. Baby kittens are especially vulnerable to diarrhea and dehydration if they drink this, so NO COW’S MILK. Some local grocery stores carry COSI, which PAWS recommends as a lactose-free alternative.
❌ Onions and garlic – If cats eat this regularly, their red blood cells break down and they become anemic. If you feed leftovers, make sure these aren’t there.
❌ Chocolate – Cats can’t taste sugar, so it’s not a treat for them. The darker the chocolate, the worse for them. ❌ Grapes and raisins – These can cause kidney failure in cats.
❌ Bones – Cats can choke on them.
❌ Tuna (human food) – They won’t get complete nutrition with this, but every now and then should be OK. ❌ Alcohol – A small amount can send the cats into a coma, depending on the proof. So para masaya lahat, ikaw na lang uminom nito.
❌ Coffee – Can be fatal if they drink enough of it.
❌ Spoiled or rotten food – Needs no further explanation. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t give it to the cats.

    WHAT TO FEED 🙆‍♀️
😻 Meat – Cats are obligate carnivores, so they need meat to thrive. If feeding chicken, make sure it’s cooked, unsalted, and boneless. Raw meats can contain harmful bacteria.
😻 Kalabasa (pumpkin) – Boiled kalabasa (seedless and peeled) is great for cats. Just make sure it’s been boiled until it’s soft.
😻 Dry cat food – Most brands are nutritionally balanced for cats, so feed away.
😻 Wet cat food – Older kitties may prefer wet food (like tuna, salmon, mackerel) as it’s easier for them to chew and digest. But regardless of age, most cats go crazy over wet food.
😻 Clean drinking water – So they don’t have to drink from other sources, like dirty rainwater or puddles.

    Happy feeding!

  • The simultaneous Safe PH sessions we held for Smart Millenniors across the country last year won a Gold Anvil at the 55th Anvil Awards! What a high. In all, my teammates took home 25 Anvils from various 2019 programs last Friday. A good year :)
