bye, Q1

hey friend, thanks for opening! greetings from the end of march/start MIDDLE of april! time flies, wtf. -K

Hi, so yeah, March happened. It was so batshit I am actually just sitting down to write about it now, when it's clearly already well into April. What are your vacation plans, if any?? I hope you're out getting some sun.

Speaking of sun: We're slowly getting more comfortable about going back out, though man, regaining lost stamina is something, huh? Two years of relative inactivity has done considerable damage to our capacity to endure sustained activity. I've always been a walker/commuter (15 years in Makati this year, imagine!) and I'm happy to be slowly regaining my walks, thanks partly to RTO (which at least has me walking about 2km+ a day, to and from HQ), and powered by this playlist headlined by (G)I-DLE's anthem Tomboy (which makes me feel so seen, damn--I mean, have you seen Jihyo's TikTok with the girls!)

ANYWAY

So yeah, TWICE madness is still pretty much under way. From ZERO magazines in this household, we now have not one, not two, but FOUR (??) editions of SANA's Cosmopolitan cover, and TWO editions of Y Magazine with Jihyo and Nayeon on the cover.

ALSO HAPPENED THIS MONTH/BEGINNING OF APRIL [as noted on Twitter]

-RIP, PDI's Editorial Cartoon.

-After several failed attempts, I finally solved my first sedecordle (16 WORDS WORDLE STYLE, the insanity of it all)

-Do you have five seconds to spare to discuss these four photos of Jeongyeon in particular? Or these matching JeongMi photo cards? Thanks, we just need to yell.

-Are you watching Business Proposal on Netflix? YOU SHOULD. It just wrapped and it's just. UGH CHEF'S KISS. No thoughts, head empty. In other words, perfect. (What have you been watching?? We need to fill the Business Proposal-shaped void in our hearts)

-Something that made me laugh so hard: arRAINged marriage, which is a cartoon about tikbalang caught under summer rains HAHAHA

-My signed Leni PC came home??? It is so beautiful, i'm cry

-Thought-provoking: I have been thinking about this thread about men, intimacy, social isolation, emotional malnutrition, and... the sort of privilege women have, in the sense that it's socially acceptable for women to be intimate with each other, even platonically? It's a lot to unpack, and I'm afraid I can't articulate it well. The author of the original post is a transman, relating how he is being blindsided by this "huge sense of social isolation that comes with being perceived as male, because now people are subsconsciously treating me as a potential predator"--which is, you know. Not his fault, and he knows that BUT ONLY BECAUSE he grew up socialized as female. "You know how badly this would have fucked my mind up if I had grown up with this?" he asks. "It's 4:30 a.m. and I'm mourning the loss of a privilege I didn't even know I had."

-You thought I was done with these Wordle incarnations from hell, but let me present to you: DUOTRIGORDLE, which is 32 words, wordle style. WTF.

-LASTLY, SPACE FEELS: The long goodbye to Saturn's rings

A few hundred million years is a very long time. And yet I feel a particular twinge of sadness about the idea of Saturn losing its rings. So do some astronomers I’ve spoken with, and others who aren’t astronomers at all, but who grew up with a very clear picture of Saturn as a ringed planet. I felt similar pangs of emotion when I learned that the moon is slowly drifting away from Earth; that a tiny Mars helicopter tried to take flight in the red planet’s atmosphere; that an interstellar comet traveled for millions of years without feeling the warmth of a star. I’ve come to think of these reactions as “space feels.” None of these events has any real bearing on our daily lives, and yet they tug at the heartstrings in a cosmic way. “It’s very, very sad that the rings will disappear in the future,” O’Donoghue said. But “I’m very happy that we’re lucky enough to see it.”

WAIT -- And a couple of things more

-The amount of content TWICE is churning out in the lead-up to their Japan concerts later this month AND LA Encore next month (the insanity??) IS CRAZY, I'm telling you. Girlies are THE MOMENT and I am so glad to be here for the ride. For your consideration:

  • The February concert vlogs - if you need a rec, go for Jeongyeon's, because girl is so real and precious.
  • The latest Time To Twice (TTT), which is, I KID YOU NOT, a dating game. Someone compared it to Singles Inferno (?), but with all 9 of them as the only contestants? I can't explain what TTT is exactly, because it's just TWICE goofing around and being competitive in various scenarios, sometimes as themselves but other times as these totally made-up personas (my favorite is MOMO being a clean-freak haha), but this latest series is called SOULMATES and remember what I said above, about it being socially acceptable for women to be close and intimate and emotionally connected, like, platonically? This is that privilege in full play haha.

-I agree immensely: We would all be better off if people looking to adapt fanfiction for book deals and movies looked at AO3 instead of Wattpad. Jesus christ.

-ANYWAY: Speaking of AO3, something I've been badgering C to read: this minayeon AU that reads like Priory, like Game of Thrones, and little bit like Clexa. The only bad thing about it is that it is only 10k words long. Lovely language.

So there! Sorry for rambling, I just had to get this out! Have a restful Holy Week ahead :)

XO,

K
