april rundown

Hey friend, thanks for opening! How was your April?? I can’t believe we’re really heading into the super final final stretch of the election season. Are you ready for a new President?! how are you even sleeping these days??? As the old joke goes–yea, like a baby, because we wake in the middle of the night hungry and crying haha. Anyway, just some notes on April. Thanks in advance for reading. -K

Perhaps a couple of things for this letter:

we were in boracay for c’s birthday.

It was our first time back since the alert levels eased, and I was kind of anxious about it? If you’re traveling to Boracay you technically just need your vaccination cards (+ hotel accommodation + valid IDs + flight details: FULL GUIDE for tourists here). It rained for most of our trip–we were there for holy week and caught the tailend of a typhoon–and on our first day we had to wade through D’Mall floods HAHAHAHA in the middle of fucking APRIL. Oh well. Needless to say, the island is always amazing, even under gloomy skies. The sun came out eventually on the fourth day, I think? The beach got pretty crowded. On our last full day, people had to wait 2-3 hours for their turn in any activity. INSANE. Anyway, it’s probably still best to go NOT on Holy Week haha. Some recs:

  • a coffee shop called Coffee Stroll, on the roof deck of Nigi Nigi Too Station 1 (above Jonah’s? I think?)
  • accomodation of choice: Sea Wind! Happy hour 4-7, knock yourselves out on rhum cokes.
  • true story, before this trip i did not know that the sunset paraw ride was done LIKE THAT. it was fun.
  • since it was a hellish queue for activities, we opted for a short land tour of the island on a trike? not bad, also private (instead of going on the island hopping things, which had as many as 30-40pax a boat), and also flexible itinerary-wise? we stayed at puka mostly, which was fun. what was NOT fun: walking on sand. SERIOUSLY. more on my love-hate relationship with walking in the next portion.

we were at ‘Pasay is Pink’ carrying around a TWICE placard.

C and I were part of the 412k-strong #PasayIsPink sortie for VP Leni and it was amazing and exhausting. We actually went with my officemates but we got separated halfway through the thing and only met up again after the program, sometime closer to midnight, I think? It was a really long day but also really fun to see and be with a lot of people?? The energy was so good. People were obviously very tired, but still very gracious, mahihiya ka sa sarili mong tantrum HAHAHA. Some highlights:

  • the Magalona siblings singing Kaleidoscope World I’M CRY FrancisM would totally be here had he been alive.
  • the circle of gays right behind us who were amusing throughout the thing. At one point, they were throwing one of their friends like they were in a pep squad?? were they even trained for that?? WHO KNOWS.
  • every single ONCE coming up to us to ask to take a picture with our placard. HAHHAHA. we loved how recognizable it is.

Anyway yeah so April was fun! Sometimes I feel like I only come here to talk to myself–where does time go really! We RTO every two weeks and I am more exhausted than ever. But we used to do this every day! Nag-gy-gym pa nga after on some nights WTF. I guess it’s the constant shifting of things that’s tiring me out? Idk.

relatable things on the internet

  • someone edited TWICE’s Japanese comeback announcement vid so that it is narrated a-la ABS-CBN telenovela and it is fucking SENDING ME
  • pls look at this jeongyeon edit. that’s it.
  • my favorite meme about mondays
  • my new favorite instagram account: 90’s kabaklaan
  • anyway speaking of kabaklaan: TWICE’s latest Time To Twice series, “Soulmates”, just ended its four-episode run and it has been so UNHINGED I’m telling you. I can’t explain the amount of gay improvising I witnessed, like. How the hell did they brief the girls so that they would get THIS show. HELP. FINISH STRONG: Ep 4
  • ANYWAY saving the best for LAST: this thread about burnout is informative and helpful.

There. I hope at least some of that has been amusing or useful! :) See you in May!!!!

XO,

K
