Mental health, nesting, ELM, sounds and movements

Hello,

eeyore (Small).jpg

“One can’t complain. I have my friends. Someone spoke to me only yesterday.”

Eeyore

How are you? It's World Mental Health Day today, and as good a day as any to remember to talk to someone if you need to, to get even the gentlest exercise, and to find a way to be with nature. It all helps.

A delightful video, this - the whole life cycle of a blue tit family from nest discovery to fledging.

In farming, good coverage and a primer from the FT on the shift from extractive to sustainable farming methods, while Sarah Langford cautions the government to be aware of the momentum behind this shift before any regressive retreat from ELM. It's (still) a very interesting time for farming and land management.

If you have any issues with reading stuff behind a paywall, as often drops on the FT, try 12ft.io.

We're just back from a (much-needed) holiday in Italy. If you enjoy soundscapes and slow radio, here's San Gimignano waking up in the morning.

Finally, a personal/professional update: Harriet and I are relocating to Devon next month, to be closer to family and find a place to call our own with space to grow things. I am leaving Deepdale Farm feeling very proud what we've achieved there in the last couple of years. Needless to say though, we're really excited about this change. I'm keen to meet people and find out more about what's happening in the South West in food, farming, well-being and biodiversity. This will be after a short break when we've moved, which will be spent unpacking and reassuring a traumatised cat.

All the best

Nathan
