The Gong News
Hi Gong readers! Sorry I haven’t been in touch for a while. This newsletter is on a bit of a hiatus but a lot of exciting things have been happening.
First up, I am very excited to announce that the new publishing company Kembla Books that I am part of is launching its first book this Saturday 31 August from 3:30pm at the Servo Food Truck Bar in Port Kembla. Disaster Communism and Anarchy in the Streets by Nick Southall explores popular responses and grassroots alternatives to ‘disaster capitalism’. Ranging across the everyday struggles to survive the cascading crises of floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, terrorism, war, droughts, fires, and the covid pandemic, this book is a personal and political journey into the heart of despair, grief, hope, love, solidarity, and the most important issues of our times.
Nick is a dear friend and comrade, a writer, teacher, and activist who has been involved in social movements in Wollongong his whole life. At the launch, Nick will be in conversation with Melanie Barnes.
Check out all of the details on the Event page on Facebook.

Second, I have just an article published in online publication Jacobin on The Heroic Origins of Japanese Socialism. Check it out on their website and let me know what you think by emailing mail AT alexanderbrown.online.
