Love & Justice: Introducing our Summer Series
Hi fellow Georgia Feminists,
It's been a rough few days, but one of the things we've been coming back to is the importance of community and mutual aid — of building a version of the world that we want to see and live in.
With that in mind, we've decided to center our summer work on the idea of Love & Justice. We're working to support each other and build community together.
So what are we up to?
First, we're hosting a series of discussion groups in July.
Registration for these facilitated discussion groups is open, and you can find information about the groups here:
Monday, July 11 at 6 pm ET: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Join us to discuss the breakout indie film and how to love when "nothing matters."
Monday, July 18 at 6 pm ET: All About Love
We'll discuss bell hooks' book on love and how she helps us think toward a love ethic.
Monday, July 25 at 6 pm ET: Severance x Severance
We'll explore office culture, relationships, and sci-fi through a discussion of the Apple TV+ show "Severance" and the book "Severance" by Ling Ma.
Note: Each event has a charge of $10. If this is not within your means right now, reply to this email and we'll sign you up, no questions asked.
Second, we're going to be doing another round of merch sales. (Stay tuned for more on this!)
In both cases, we'll be donating 70 percent of proceeds to the following organizations:
We're retaining 30 percent of proceeds to balance our organizational operating costs. Since we're committed to transparency around where money goes, we'll report back on registrations/purchases and the total funds donated.
And we do want to say — we know that selling merch can be complicated, that it can be more straightforward to make donations. And if that's where you land, please donate directly to the organizations above.
However, we also know that shirts/stickers/totes etc. can be a part of how we see and feel our community; they can be a reminder of those lifting us up even if they're not physically present. Since the beginnings of The Georgia Feminist almost ten years ago, shirts (however simple they seem) have helped us feel connected to each other. We wear them when we’re on adventures, when we’re cozy at home, when we want to feel brave. And in some small way, they help us remember that our community is always with us. To be clear, as an organization we have a lot of thoughts about the non-profit industrial complex, and our next newsletter will dig into those thoughts in more detail.
Until then, we hope you'll sign up for some events, share information with friends/family who might be interested, and keep supporting those around you.
Warmly,
The Georgia Feminist Team
