An Update from The Georgia Feminist
Last winter, we sold 368 Georgia Feminist shirts and sweatshirts to raise money for some really great causes. We’re happy to report that we’ve made donations to all six organizations, and that we’re planning our next steps. This year, you can expect to see a lot more from us, including a newsletter, new projects, and new ways to get involved. If you want to stay in touch, you can find us by signing up here. And if you want to make sure you get emails from us, you can add thegeorgiafeminist@mg.buttondown.email to your contacts.
Going forward, you'll get 1-2 emails/month from us. (And our next one takes a deep dive into the myths and misconceptions of Southern history!) But right now, we wanted to share this important update with you, since it's been a while since you've heard from us. Since our shirt sale in Jan. 2021, we've been hard at work setting up as a honest-to-goodness non-profit and making donations to some great organizations with the revenues from the sale. We're going to be sharing more updates on what we're planning next as an org soon, but for now we wanted to share the honestly amazing donation numbers with y'all. Thank you so much for your support of these great organizations!

Donations: Total $6038.47
Asian Americans Advancing Justice — Atlanta — $977.78
Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta is the first and only nonprofit legal advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) in Georgia and the Southeast.
Black Voters Matter — $977.78
Our goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
Fair Fight — $977.78
We promote fair elections around the country, encourage voter participation in elections, and educate voters about elections and their voting rights. Fair Fight Action brings awareness to the public on election reform, advocates for election reform at all levels, and engages in other voter education programs and communications.
Latin American Association — $977.75
The mission of the Latin American Association (LAA) is to empower Latinos to adapt, integrate and thrive. Our vision is ‘Opportunity for All.’
The LAA achieves its mission through five (5) focus areas: Civic Engagement & Advocacy, Economic Empowerment, Youth Services, Family Stabilization & Well-Being, and Immigration Services.
(The Georgia Feminist had originally planned to make a donation to the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, GALEO. However, for various logistical reasons, we were unable to make this donation. In place, our board unanimously voted to donate these foundations to the Latin American Association.)
The Loveland Foundation — $1149.60
Loveland Foundation is committed to showing up for communities of color in unique and powerful ways, with a particular focus on Black women and girls. Our resources and initiatives are collaborative and they prioritize opportunity, access, validation, and healing. We are becoming the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We added donations to The Loveland Foundation by extending sales after the events of Jan. 6, 2021. 80 percent of profits from sales on Jan. 10, 2021 went entirely to The Loveland Foundation.
New Georgia Project — $977.78
The New Georgia Project is a non-partisan effort to register and civically engage Georgians.
We meet new voters where they are – in churches, on college campuses, and in their neighborhoods – to share information about how to register and how to vote. We are turning new registrants into informed and engaged voters, many for the first time ever.
We were so encouraged and inspired by the enthusiasm shown for these organizations, and we’re looking forward to our future projects, which include further education and advocacy efforts. Stay tuned for more!
And lastly, if you know someone who'd be interested in this newsletter, please forward this email to them!
