New Review: A Southern Gothic Bildungsroman
Hi there!
Dear Readers,
In case you missed it, I’ve just posted a new review of Jim Roberts’ debut novel, And Your Byrd Can Sing.
Set in the fictional landscapes of 1960s and 70s Texas, this is a Southern Gothic coming-of-age story that doesn’t flinch. It is gritty, hard-hitting, and at times disturbing. But it is balanced by redeeming characters and a deeply satisfying end.
I found it to be a great portrayal of the Bible-belt, and I think you will find it thought-provoking as well.
