No wandering Magnuson today. Needed to switch it up.
It wasn't raining so I needed to go outside. Have you heard about the Washington State Arboretum?
I can't really tell you much about it. Honestly, I have no idea. I was going to plagiarize part of the Wikipedia page, but there wasn't really a lot there. All I know is that it has the best Japanese maples and no one seems to stray off the pavement to the good trails.
I digress.
The park is bordered by a fairly expansive set of wetlands that sit on top of lake Washington. A boardwalk snakes through them, I have seen it from a canoe.
I've done Gasworks, Magnuson, Golden Gardens, Carkeek, Ravenna park so many times I really needed something new. So off I went.
The first two hours I got distracted and rewalked the good trails just to check on them. They are still good. (I spent most of the time thinking about who I want to make a bowling team with after the pandemic is over)
Once that had been done, off to find the wetlands. This started with me exploring underneath the interstate. You had the usual 'under-the-interstate' things like a firepit of random things surrounded by office chairs (rolling office chairs - ????). And...ferns! Look at these ferns!
Once I got past that, I ran into a very muddy path. It's been raining almost every day. I wish I could snow-bird. Or van life. Or subaru life. Whatever.
Then I found it!
It was beautiful. Lots of thickets and brambles. Cool birds everywhere for those that are into that type of thing. Weird blue barrels floating underneath parts of it. I'm about 87% sure they weren't pollution.
Finally, this is the dock I settled on.
I hung out there for a bit and did some pushups. I'm supposed to be reading for my book club. I'm a little burnt out on reading. Don't worry members of my two book clubs reading this, I won't let you down completely, only mostly.
Cleared out after a bit so a cute couple could canoodle and watch the interstate I guess.
(THERE WERE SO MANY COUPLES THERE. Everyone was a couple and was being very 'couple-y'. The youth were out in droves. It did not make me feel lonely and I'm not calling this out because of that. Everyone was and was acting obnoxiously adorable. Spring-ish vibes. I formed a theory, here it is: in Seattle, people are taking Covid-19 *very very* seriously. So, the only practical date left is...walking in a park.
Get off my wetlands)
It was a good day.
