Changes

I guess I'll just this out of the way. Céline and I are getting a divorce. I have written several thousand words and at some point will wrestle them into something that I can share. That I promise you. For now, there are a few things that I can say. I still respect her greatly and believe she is a good person. Even though the last few months have been hard, it doesn't outweigh the many wonderful proceeding years. We are making Gaël our top priority. We are trying not to disrupt his life and create a happy environment around him. We are working together to try to find a solution that works well for everyone. This thing has been painful and stressful, overwhelming at times. The amount of love and care that has been directed at me has been...well I don't think I have the right words to express it. It's been everything.

So what else is new?

I've got a sweet new pad. It's bright and spacious. The hammock is set up, so I am more or less good in terms of furniture (though I am considering a table and chairs). I focus my energy on the wall decoration, mostly my national park postcard collage. I'm hoping it will be the motivation for many travels this year. I'm right across the street from Magnuson park. I watch the sunrise in the morning. I stand on the floating dock and try to match my breathing to it's rocking. It's totally zen (sometimes I wear my bandana just to complete the image).

I got a job. I'm back at Amazon. Yep.

Since I don't start work for a few weeks I have been mostly at loose ends. When I can hitch a ride into the mountains I try to go hiking. A friend took me skiing on a Thursday and it was incredible. I think I am skier now. I gave myself the nickname "trash thunder" (for my lithe and supple ways on the slpe).

I broke away this last week to visit Portland. I wanted to see as many friends and family as possible before I started at Amazon. I ended up with way more time than I anticipated and ended pounding a lot of chai tea lattes in the Powell's cafe shop. My brother came up midway and we went to a Young the Giant concert. For a few hours, life was a beautiful blur of lights, fog, sequins, kimonos and the girl in front of me blocking my view with her phone (ok sorry, had to get that out, I'm good now). My hardcore diet fell apart. Turns out Portland has awesome donuts, thai food, Japanese curry, croissants, pain au chocolate, burritos and much more. Totally worth it.

Gaël is awesome :).

Ok that's enough for now. Cowabunga dudes,

DJ
