£3m of investment is bringing keratin enamel regeneration to market

King’s College London spin-out Eterna Regeneratives has secured £3 million led by Hoxton Ventures to commercialise its biomimetic mineralisation technology. Founded by Sherif Elsharkawy and Khaled Eissa, the start-up uses keratin molecules to form a layer on teeth that lab tests on extracted teeth show is nearly as hard as natural enamel. The team hopes to launch the patented product commercially next year.

England

The NHS Business Services Authority rejected the items between July 2025 and June 2026 because they breached the Dental Practitioners’ Formulary, leaving pharmacies an estimated £50,000 out of pocket. Community Pharmacy England is calling on the Department of Health and Social Care to review the formulary, warning that it lists discontinued medications and omits standard formulations like amoxicillin tablets.

Scotland

The Scottish Institute for Dental Nursing Education has opened at New College Lanarkshire’s Coatbridge Campus, offering online courses including SVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing. The college has trained almost half of Scotland’s 59,000 dental support staff since its curriculum started as an evening class in 1990. Chief Dental Officer Dr Gillian Leslie cut the ribbon alongside Community Care Minister Alison Thewliss MSP.

Under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, freelance dental nurse invoices become legally overdue after 30 days unless agreed otherwise in writing. Contractors can claim statutory interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate alongside fixed recovery fees of £40 to £100 per late invoice under 2002 regulations.
