The Crime Lady: EVIDENCE OF THINGS SEEN Is Out Now
Dear TCL Readers:
I will make this newsletter brief, because the news is in the headline. My latest anthology, Evidence of Things Seen: True Crime in an Era of Reckoning, was published this week. (July 4, specifically.) You can purchase a copy at Bookshop.org, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, or your favorite independent bookstore. My introductory essay to the anthology is available to read at CrimeReads.
Publicity is starting to roll out, with Q&As over at Shelf Awareness, Writers Digest, Zoomer (in Canada) and Shondaland (forthcoming) and podcast appearances at Keen On, Crime World (in Ireland) and The Murder Sheet (forthcoming, I’m recording later today.) Book Riot has featured the book twice, once on the Read or Dead podcast and a second time in Liberty Hardy’s monthly nonfiction roundup, and it’s one of Inside Hook’s July book picks. At least a major newspaper or two plans to review it too, I’m told. BookPage gave a nice review, too.
This is about what I expected — anthologies, especially the kinds I edit, are marketing-driven more than publicity-driven (though it’s always nice to get publicity, especially when it’s so damn difficult for anyone to take notice of a new book these days with collapsing/fragmenting social media.) I’ve also heard there are copies at the airport bookstores, so please send pictures my way if you spot EOTS there!
I listed forthcoming events in last week’s newsletter, but here they are again:
Thursday, July 6 (that’s today!) at 3 PM: Instagram Live with Rabia Chaudry
Tuesday, July 11 at 6 PM: Panel with contributors May Jeong, Amelia Schonbek, and Samantha Schuyler at the Brooklyn Heights branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, with Books Are Magic as host bookseller. (Registration link here)
Wednesday, July 12 at 7 PM: Event with Abraham Josephine Riesman (NYT bestselling author of Ringmaster) at Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA. (Registration link here)
Thursday, July 13 at 7 PM: Event with Jonquilyn Hill (host of Vox Media’s The Weeds podcast) at Politics & Prose, flagship branch (More details here)
Saturday, August 12 at 9:30 AM: National Book Festival panel with Rebecca Makkai (author of I Have Some Questions For You) hosted by Angie Kim (author of Happiness Falls)
That’s it for now. Please say hello if you make it to any of my events. Somehow, this is my fourth book — 2 nonfiction crime books, 2 anthologies — in 5 years, all published by Ecco, who continue to be an incredible publishing partner. And as always, I’m grateful for my readers, so thank you.
Until next time, I remain,
The Crime Lady
