finding your taste without trends
Hello everyone!! Just a friendly reminder that applications are open to be a part of my team! The link is in my linktree!
Finding your personal style isn’t always some big realization. For me it was honestly just trial and error. From 2020-2024 i had no idea how i wanted to dress, so I tried everything as a kid. I went through a really basic phase — plain t-shirts, simple outfits, nothing that stood out too much since I believed being locked in as a band kid was more important than feeling okay in how I dressed (NO SHADE TO MY LOVELY BAND KIDS I MISS IT). Then I switched to all black and graphic tees, darker looks that felt more guarded, like I was trying to be taken seriously. As if I wanted to be seen as mature and smart in the big grade six. After that it flipped completely and I was just wearing pink, bright colors, loud outfits, just seeing what stuck. It felt like a friendship you know will end in two months even from the first meet or a talking stage where the guy brings out his guitar on facetime and you just sit there thinking: what in the actual living hell did I get myself into?
None of it felt permanent, but none of it was wrong either. It was all part of figuring it out. This year, I eventually landed where I am now — more tights, thrifted pieces, softer layers, clothes that feel worn and comfortable and kind of quiet. A lot of that came from a friend of mine and the way she dressed. She showed me that style doesn’t have to be loud or trendy to mean something. It can just exist and still feel like you. That’s when I realized your taste doesn’t really come from trends, it comes from time, from the people around you, and from trying things on until something finally feels right. Every phase teaches you something, even the ones you don’t dress like anymore.
