// Compelling stories // Simplifying the Complexity of Marketing

Newsletter #112: Introduction

Hello and greetings on this misty Friday in Stockholm.

First and foremost; HOW ARE YOU? Please send me a line or two and let me know. I want this email to be a conversation starter, so tell me about your day, your plans, pain points or love story. I'd really like to hear from you!

In the past couple of weeks, I have been polishing the content on my new site; MarketingAtHeart - where I will focus on 3 things;
1) How can I help you with regards to your marketing challenges?
2) Insights about the latest in marketing
3) Next season of my Podcast with great marketers around the world. (soon)

››› please have a look at the site here

Other than that I have initiated a LinkedIn marketing hack for one of my clients, which is generating solid leads and making it easier for them to qualify and convert big B2B deals. If you are curious about this hack, let me know, and I'll see if I can share more details one-on-one with you. Just reply to this email ;)

How are your preparations for 2020 coming along? Have you had the chance to review, rethink and optimize the goals, objectives, and tactics? Do you find it challenging, and do you need any help?
I am really pushing myself as well to clarify my overall goals and objectives for the coming years. It is a challenging process where I go deep within to figure out what my intent and actions for 2020 will be and how I can align them as closely as possible, and I am very excited about what is coming - I think it will change up my mission to the next level, and help more marketers as yourself moving forward.

Ah, I almost forgot... jeez. Last week I was invited to attend a full-day workshop with Wellstreet, and their announced partnership with Google Launchpad program. I got to meet some of the global google mentors, and the 1o startups that will join the program – AND – I also got the honor to be appointed the local Mentor in marketing for the Wellsteet Google Launchpad program, starting January 2020. I'm sure I will share more on that later :)

So - let's just jump into this weeks marketing highlights

How to Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Network

LinkedIn is a powerful tool for small businesses looking to grow their network. They boast 660 million members worldwide and over 165 million in the U.S. alone.
Because it’s a business-focused social network, it’s a necessity for those running B2Bs to have a presence on the platform. But B2C businesses can thrive on LinkedIn as well.

Why is this important?
Linkedin is to me the power-engine for almost everything in my professional life. This is where I get the best connections, find brilliant nuggets of insight, comment and chat with my peers and generate business. I have been a LinkedIn evangelist since I did my video-podcast series with my friend, Thomas Moen, called Sofaprat; (couch conversations) and talked strongly about the strengths of the platform and how it is the power tool for anyone. By the way, are we connected on LinkedIn?

Research Shows Most of Us Are Lousy at Googling. This Google Scientist Has 5 Tips to Change That

Google is ubiquitous in our lives. We ask it to diagnose our illnesses, solve our kitchen emergencies, and plug the holes in our memory. Despite all this practice, however, multiple studies show a great many of us remain terrible at Googling.  Read the full article here

Why is this important?
"Overall, expert searchers use all of the resources of the search engine and their browsers to search both deeply (by making query variations) and broadly (by having multiple tabs or windows open). Effective searchers also know how to limit a search to a particular website or to a particular kind of document, find a phrase (by using quote marks to delimit the phrase), and find text on a page (by using a text-find tool)," Russell and Callegaro sum up.
Armed with these tips, you can now count yourself an expert searcher too.

Why marketing's next battleground is your face

Marketers are using facial recognition technology to track your behavior—and personalize your shopping—but privacy advocates are worried…  the technology empowers the ultimate level of customer service, and that it’s been very good for business, too.
As marketers scramble to better connect with consumers, the use of facial recognition is spreading. More than 120 patents were filed by app and tech companies between 2015 and 2017, according to market research firm CB Insights. Read the full article here

Why is this important?
Face recognition and personalized experiences can, as it states in the article, increase sales with up to 40% and with no complaints from the customer. However. I also see the privacy challenges as well as the compliance issues, so the need for opt-in will be imperative. But I also see the huge potential generating a brand experience that is seamless, optimized and fully relevant to the receiver, which will save both time and money. Your thoughts?

Why is this important?
Implementing best practices like crafting evergreen blog content, writing strong calls to action and focusing on valuable keywords all still apply when it comes to building your audience.

The 4 Critical Challenges of Tech Startup PR.

In the technology industry, almost more than anywhere else, image is everything. Image is the bedrock part of the “fake it till you make it” culture that animates most of Silicon Valley today. Innovators use it to sell illusions while they figure out the nuts and bolts of their big ideas. Here are four critical challenges of tech startup PR.. (Source: RRW)

Why is this important?
In an industry fueled by big dreams, that’s often enough to carry a startup through its’ early days. It helps when getting others to believe in those dreams is the difference between success and failure. Of course, no tech startup can go on forever without delivering on their initial promises, though.
Seizing control of the public narrative will buy the time it takes to turn the startup’s dreams into a reality.
