The eighth coin

We are reminded that TFP is not invincible. That his agenda is not inevitable.

Just eight days ago TFP posted about his intended nominee for Attorney General on Truth Social:

A screenshot of the floridly written post “announcing” Matt Gaetz as the Attorney General nominee.

Gaetz has now withdrawn from consideration, a reversal in staffing faster than Anthony Scaramucci’s 11-day stint as White House Director of Communications in 2017.

While House Republicans were keeping the outcomes of Gaetz’s ethics investigation secret, Senate Republicans made clear to Gaetz that he would not have the votes to be confirmed.

“I think that was appropriate,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) when asked for his reaction to the news that Gaetz withdrew.

(I am not fluent in the coded language of Washington politics, but am imagining McConnell saying this with two middle fingers raised in TFP’s direction.)

There are signals emerging that Pete Hegseth’s nomination as Secretary of Defense might now also be uncertain.

It is possible this is the news media’s attempt to gin up dramatic storylines. But it is also possible that with age, dementia, and the casual elimination of background checks TFP could be an even less competent hiring manager than he was the first time around.

One @#$%ing delight

Tonight was time spent with loved ones. Xta and I left the house to meet my brother Tim and sister-in-law Deirdre, and college pals Anne and Jim, for a katsu dinner in Japantown and a remarkable close-up magic show at the historic (and haunted!) Hotel Majestic.

I have no idea how he placed the eighth coin in my hand. (There were just seven, I swear.)

Six people smiling at the camera in their late middle age.
