My last tweet

I turned back into a lurker on July 23, 2023, the day that Memlon Fuchs* announced that Twitter would now be rebranded as “X”.

My last tweet, posted that day, included no words, simply a GIF of George Bluth (Jeffrey Tambor) from Arrested Development removing his glasses and burying his face in his hands.

A looping GIF of George Bluth (Jeffrey Tambor) removing his glasses and burying his face in his hands."

If the data is to be believed, I tweeted 6,244 times over the course of 17 years.

My Twitter profile, at the handle @cjereneta, featuring a photo of myself and a still frame from *Ted Lasso* of Roy Kent reaching up to touch the “BELIEVE” sign over the door.

At my peak there were 400+ humans following my feed. Nowhere near influencer numbers, but not nothing.

Courage to kern the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

I would tweet about the boy, and technology, and bad typography.** It was a time in which it felt playful to crack silly jokes and to YELL IN ALL CAPS about the tiny vexations of daily living.

It was a million years ago. Or maybe just a decade.

I still have work to do deciding how I plan to use Bluesky (or Mastodon or Threads). But finishing this job was tonight’s one thing.

*Still workshopping this one.
**Still proud of myself for “Reinhdd Nѥbuhr”
