Ideas of myself

I’m following too many people on Bluesky.

I know many people follow hundreds (even thousands) of accounts, but I can’t process the volume of information currently coming through that particular pipe.

For those who haven’t been paying attention to the recent and rapid growth of Bluesky, there does now appear to be a critical mass of migration from X of journalists and other reality-based accounts. Recent data from The Guardian and The Boston Globe suggest that Bluesky is a more reliable source of engagement than X or Threads—both of which algorithmically downrank news (and links generally).

It’s unknown whether Bluesky will continue to grow (or survive), but there is something atypical happening over there (regardless of the how many columns try to paint Bluesky as a liberal “echo chamber”).

One interesting thing Bluesky is doing (like Twitter might once have, in an earlier era) is publishing a “firehose” of live Bluesky posts for data nerds and developers to work with. Andy Baio has been collecting a thread of interesting projects, including this 3D screensaver-style visualizer.

A screenshot of Bluesky posts visualized in the style of a 3D screensaver of colored text forming a tunnel stretching into the distance.

One @#$%ing thing

There are clothes in my closet and bureau I know I’ve not worn since before 2020. I spent tonight removing things I won’t be wearing again.

It’s a useful practice to downsize to a smaller version of “enough”, and also to get clearer on which clothes feel comfortable to wear at my body’s current size.

Calibrating my ideas of myself to the reality of my actual self. Wild, I know.
