The Beat: Pony
Back in my blogging days, I created a feature for The Grey Estates called The Beat. It was a super fun way to merge all of my interests and I’m super stoked to be bringing it back to Tendercore. I’m equally excited for Sam Bielanski of PONY to be joining me for this brand new Beat chapter. Let’s get into the beauty.
If you’re unfamiliar with the feature, The Beat was an invitation for people in music to talk about their makeup routine.
What are your current top three favorite makeup products?
My top favorites at the moment are the elf Putty Blush in the shade Fiji, elf Glossy Lip Stain in the shade Spicy Sienna and NYX Glow Shots in the shade Come Thru Coconut
What's the one skincare item you can't live without?
Most definitely Beauty Of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50. It has such a beautiful finish I don't even feel the need to wear moisturizer in the daytime anymore.
What are the essential beauty items you pack when on tour?
I try to keep it light on tour so I like having a product I can use on both my lips and cheeks, so the elf lip stains really come in handy for that purpose.
Recently, I started using this dry shampoo from a company called Rabbit Brush. They make sustainable cruelty-free haircare products, and the dry shampoo for dark hair is a game changer. It also smells like a Christmas cookie, so it really rocks on the days on tour where I can't wash my hair, or if I just need something quick to help me freshen up after a long van ride. Glitter is also a great tool to slap on a bit of excitement before a set.
What's an item you found out about through TikTok, and is it worth it to buy?
I found out about the Essence Cranberry Lip Oil on TikTok. I love Essence as a company because all of their products are vegan and cruelty-free, so i don't have to think twice about buying anything. But, this lip oil was like $5 and it's pink and has such a beautiful tint but also really hydrates my lips. Definitely worth the hype and it's so affordable!
If PONY was designing a nail polish color, what color would it be and what would be its name?
I think a cherry red nail is such a timeless color and it goes so well with everything, but it's also so powerful yet still feminine. So, it would have to be a cherry red and would 100% be called Choke Cherry
You've worn some truly sick makeup looks on your album covers. Which one is your favorite and why?
This one is hard, but I think my favorite is the look for the “Did It Again” single art. It's like a messy blue eyeshadow and red lipstick look that is totally unhinged. I am not very skilled at applying a full beat but I love experimenting with makeup and colour so this was a way I could do that without worrying about being perfect. And I think the messy and unhinged nature of the look really compliments the themes of the song, in like a manic self-destructive kinda way.
