⌂ telos.haus end-of-july updates

Dear friends of the haus,

This is Soran, reporting live from 303 Ten Eyck, writing for the telos.haus chronicles.

(You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to the telos.haus newsletter or our Luma event calendar. You can unsubscribe here if you don’t want to receive these.)

I wanted to share a few exciting updates about our warehouse and the happenings inside it.

The Garden of Studio Wenjüe Lu

Michael and Lulu of Studio Wenjüe Lu

This weekend, telos will be taken over by our friends of Studio Wenjüe Lu. In a word, WJL makes art and clothing—slowly, with care, and by hand.

Michael and Lulu will be hosting three events that we would like to invite you to, at the heart of which is an indoor “garden”.

  1. On Saturday, we’re hosting an experimental figure drawing session. Traditionally, figure drawing sessions are conducted with a nude model; in the garden, our models will be dressed in WJL garments. This is neither fashion nor figure drawing anymore, but something in-between.

  2. The drawing session will be followed by a reception with WJL-themed cocktails and custom cake by food4play. Friends and sonic duo Chamberlain and Mara of Cultivated Sound will be playing live throughout the evening; they’re visionaries, and most recently played at Silence Please.

  3. Lastly, on Sunday, we’re hosting a sound bath in the garden with 4-piece ensemble Many Ohms. There will be space to lie down, relax, draw, fall asleep… This event will bring things full circle, as this whole weekend was inspired by a Many Ohms x WJL sound bath I attended at Maann Studio exactly two months ago.

I’m thrilled all of this is coming together; I don’t think telos has put this level of thought and care into a production before. I’m excited to see you there.

Last Friday, we hosted tea.haus 003, where we experimented with a no-devices policy. The votes are in: it’s clear that the people want a chance to step away from their phones to journal, read, and write. You’re invited to RSVP early for tea.haus 004—this link is currently private as we’re finalizing the design, but for loyal newsletter subscribers…

Space

Shrine to Earth is a serpentine boulder that carries a website facilitating visitors offering rocks from their camera roll that they've found. Rocks are shown in a free-form physics world and can be stacked freely by visitors. image and caption courtesy the artist

Artist and friend of the haus Spencer Chang has chosen to install his art, piece Shrine to Earth, at telos, after exhibiting at WSA. It’s a big, 100lb, NFC-enabled rock that contains a special surprise when you tap your phone to it. Come check it out!

Co-creating with are.na channels

telos.haus will always be a shared physical space. What would it mean to have shared digital space?

My current answer to that question is two public are.na channels: telos.haus is and ⛶ in the eyes of.

If you’re not familiar, are.na is what would happen if Google Drive, Pinterest, a graphic designer, and a not-evil social network had a child.

In telos.haus is, you can add blocks describing what telos is to you. Here’s one from member Tedi:

⛶ in the eyes of is where you can share photos you’ve taken at telos, and view what other people have seen. The photos below were taken by designer Halim Lee on her tiny solar-powered camera… I really love them.

Membership Updates

It’s been a challenge and a blessing to run telos solo for the last year, but it’s time for a change. I’m in the final stages of hiring a director of memberships, and I’m excited to announce a new team member soon.

New faces have joined our space as full-time members and guests on day passes. If you’ve ever been curious about working from telos, or are actively looking for a space to work from, feel free to book a tour with me.

Thank you for your friendship. Be well.

Soran ♡
